Keeping AI articles in a human voice

Style guards, briefs and brand profiles: the practical mechanics that stop generated content from reading like generated content.

Readers can tell. So can editors, and increasingly so can search quality raters. The tell is rarely factual — it is rhythm: uniform sentence length, hedged claims, tidy tricolons, no opinions.

Give the model a brief, not a topic

A topic produces an encyclopedia entry. A brief produces an argument: who it is for, what they already believe, what the article should change, which examples are allowed, what it must not claim.

Run a style guard

Every draft passes a Human-Voice check that flags the usual patterns:

  • filler transitions ("in today's fast-paced world")
  • claims with no specifics attached
  • summaries that restate the introduction
